Signing Up for A WeightWatchers Workshop: What to Expect

Justin Shin

Social support is a crucial element of weight loss, which WeightWatchers has aimed to foster with its Weight Loss Workshops. Aside from its comprehensive lifestyle and behavioral weight loss plans, WeightWatchers also focuses on building communities to offer its members guidance, accountability, and motivation.

The demand for these Workshops is high; a Workshop location in suburban Chicago amassed around 130 members before its closure as a part of the company initiative to rebalance the Workshop footprint. Though the amount of Workshops is shifting, the company still offers hundreds of Workshops around the country and other flexible online options as well.

WeightWatcher’s Workshops are accessible to members, who can easily look up "weight loss near me" or other similar keywords to find the studio locations closest to them. They’re available during the morning, afternoon, and evening for optimal flexibility. At the Workshop, members can do a private weigh-in to track progress, learn about new weight loss techniques, get to know other members, and more.

Online Workshops also provide the same help, just in a different avenue. They provide an opportunity to self-reflect, monitor weight loss, give and receive support, and help you understand your WeightWatchers plan.

If you’ve found your nearest studio location or are set to attend an online meeting, here’s what you can expect from a WeightWatchers Weight Loss Workshop:

Table Of Contents

Wellness check-in

When you arrive at the Workshop location and get registered, you’ll undergo a wellness check-in. First, you’ll be greeted by a WeightWatchers guide who will help you get started, reflect on your journey, and set your intentions for the week.

You’re also given the option to do a weigh-in. This process isn’t required, but if you decide to step on the scale, the number will be between you and your guide. If you’re attending online, you can weigh in at home and track your weight on the WeightWatchers app.

Meeting your coach

After getting set up, you’ll meet your experienced WeightWatchers coach, who will guide the workshop. They can also give you an overview of the WeightWatchers program. If you need information about the core principles, tracking methods, or the unique points system, they’ll help answer your questions.

Since the weight loss program and points system also have a diabetes-friendly version, letting your coach know if you live with the condition can also help make guidance more relevant to your needs.

Enjoying the Workshop

During the Workshop, your WeightWatchers coach will teach new weight loss techniques each week, which can include healthy eating strategies, stress management tips, fitness advice, and more. The Workshop will last for around 30 minutes.

You can feel free to participate as much as you’d like by asking questions, sharing your experiences, or offering encouragement to others. Toward the end, your coach will help you set realistic and achievable goals for the rest of the week.

Interacting with others

An advantage of the Workshop is the community it brings together. Before, during, and after the Workshop, you can converse with other members and get to know one another. Though your weight loss journeys are uniquely yours, many of your struggles are shared. You can discuss challenges, celebrate achievements, and show each other some support.

You can even share some nutrition or exercise tips that have helped; even the seemingly small pieces of advice, like what toppings to get on your sandwich when you eat out, can be helpful for making informed and healthy choices. If you’re online, you can still chat with other members, but you aren’t limited to the Workshops only; you can use the WeightWatchers app’s online community, Connect, to reach out to your group.
